Curriculum Development & Assessment – Programme Intent

The intention of the Curriculum Development & Assessment strand is to ensure that all teaching staff – including Foreign-Trained Teachers (FTTs), Newly Qualified Teachers (NQTs), and Heads of Department (HODs) – are equipped to design, deliver, and evaluate a curriculum that is coherent, inclusive, and aligned to national standards, while using assessment effectively to drive pupil progress.

By the end of this strand, participants will confidently design and adapt curricula that meet statutory requirements and respond to pupil needs, use assessment not only to measure learning but to shape it so that all pupils make strong and sustained progress, demonstrate the ability to review and improve curriculum plans using evidence from data and pupil outcomes, and contribute to a culture of high expectations, academic rigour, and continuous improvement in curriculum and assessment practice.
